MAHESH MANGAONKAR made short work of Sachin Jadhav winning 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 to make the men’s top 8 singles final of the ISP Squash Masters 2008 at the Gold’s Gym at Oshiwara late on Friday. In the final, Mangaonkar will take on Sandeep Jangra who trounced Sujat Barua 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 in the other semifinal.

The duo stays in line for doubles title too. Talented teenager, Mahesh Mangaonkar continued his fine run in the squash Masters 2008 defeating Sachin Jadhav in three straight games to enter the men’s top 8 singles final at the glass- backed Squash court on Friday.       

Mangaonkar was in total control over his senior and more experienced rival and was also in fine form as he found the nicks and corners to win 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 to set up a title clash with former under-19 National Championship Sandeep Jangra.       

Sandeep was equally impressive in his 11-5 11-4, 11-3 semi-finals victory over Sujat Barua.

Mangaonkar kept himself in line for a double when he partnered Abhishek Pradhan to a 17-15, 15-3, 15-14 win over Rajesh Rajani and Vijay Waghela to reach the finals of the mens top 8 doubles.

In the doubles final Mangaonkar and Pradhan will take on the Jangra cousins Sandeep and Vikas who got the better of Sachin Jadhav and Anil Mohite 15-6, 15-4.

In the Celebrities event, Vikram Chaturvedi (actor) defeated Sandeep Sachdev (Reality show winner) 11-2,11-3.

 

Jangra’s Strike Gold

SANDEEP Jangra, the former under-19 National champion bagged a grand double in the ISP Squash Masters, winning the men’s top singles and the men’s doubles titles at the Gold’s Gym late on Saturday.

In the singles final, pitted against teenager Mahesh Mangaonkar, Jangra prevailed 11-6, 11-5, 11-6. Sandeep then partnered with his cousin Vikas Jangra to get the better of Mangaonkar and Abhishek Pradhan 15-5, 15-10.

Mangaonkar also seemed a bit overawed by the occasion against the vastly experienced Jangra.

Mangaonkar upsets Top Seed

Mumbai, March, 14: Mahesh Mangaonkar and Abhishek Pradhan, Mumbai’s leading teenage squash players, whose sporting careers are on parallel paths, had mixed fortunes in the men’s top 8 singles quarter-finals of the Gold Gym-ISP Squash Masters 2008 at the glass backed squash court of Gold Gym, Oshiwara here on Friday.

Pitted against senior and more experience rivals in Vikas Jangra and Sandeep Jangra respectively, Mangaonkar prevailed in a tough three-setter, while Pradhan lost in straight sets. Mangaonkar, facing off against Navy’s Vikas Jangra, showed tremendous maturity and reserves of stamina to outlast Jangra 17-15, 6-11, 11-8.

Pradhan, on the other hand, drawn against Sandeep Jangra, put up a creditable show but ended up losing 6-11, 6-11.

Pradhan and Mangaonkar then teamed up for the men’s top doubles against Sanjay Goyal and emerged 11-6, 8-11, 11-3 winners.

Jangra Bags a Double

Mumbai: Sandeep Jangra, the former under-19 National champion, bagged a grand double in the Gold Gym-ISP squash Masters, winning the men’s top singles and the men’s top doubles titles at the glass-backed squash court of Gold late on Saturday.

In the singles final, Jangra prevailed 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 over power talented teenager Mahesh Mangaonkar and take home the winner’s purse of Rs. 8,000/-. Later, Sandeep partnered his cousin Vikas Jangra to get the better of Mangaonkar Abhishek Pradhan pairing 15-5, 15-10.

The celebrity event was won by Sandeep Rajora, who got the better of Vikram Chaturvedi 11-4, 11-6.

Sandeep first quelled Mahesh Mangaonkar 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 and then joined his cousin Vikas Jangra to outplay Mangaonkar and Abhishek Pradhan 15-5, 15-10.
