Fathi takes out top seeds to claim London Open title: 25/11/2012

 

Egyptian teenager Karim Ali Fathi celebrated his fifth PSA World Tour title of the year - and his second upset in the event - when he beat second seed Chris Ryder in the final of the London Open, the PSA Challenger 10 event in its fifth year at Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club in the England capital.

Fathi led 2/1 and 7/4 but Ryder clawed his way back to force a decider, to no avail as Fathi, still just 19, took the fifth to claim his fifth PSA title, all of them coming in 2012.

Joshna-Dipika wins International Doubles Squash Championship

 At Manchester : 04/04/2010

Ace Indian doubles pair of Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal held their nerves to register a sensational victory over the experienced Australian duo of Kasey Brown and Donna Urquhart in the final of the ESR International doubles championship in Manchester.

 

The Indian pair humbled Urquhart (world number 20) and Brown (world number 10) 11-10 3-11 11-10 in a 72-minute thriller.The Indians clinched two games via sudden-death. Though, the Aussies dominated the match for most part, the Indians played the big points better especially Dipika was sharp in the decider.

Earlier, Chinappa and Pallikal had defeated top seeds and world number three England's Jenny Duncalf and Alison Waters 6-11 11-8 11-4 for a place in the summit round. The English pair had won a medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

This event was sanctioned and supported under the scheme "Preparation of core probables for the Commonwealth Games 2010" to be held here from October 3 to 14.In the quarterfinals, Chinappa and Pallikal had upset another English combination of Dominic Lloyd Waters and Laura Briggs 11-4 11-9.

Meanwhile, Chinappa and Harinder Pal Singh got the better of Australians Melody Francis and Ryan Cuskelly 2-1 to enter semifinal of the mixed doubles category but then crashed out at the final-four round.They went down 0-2 to James Willstrop and Jenny Duncalf.


Saurav Ghosal and Pallikal were edged out 0-2 by Nick Matthew and Allison Waters in mixed doubles quarterfinals.In the men's events, Ghosal and Harinder finished 8th, Ritwik Bhattacharya and Sandeep Jangra finished 11th and Gaurav Nandrajog and Siddharth Suchde finished 14th.

Aditya Jagtap Win Welsh Junior Open Titles on the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit, in Cardiff (19/3/2010)
 
A successful defence in the men's Welsh Junior Open Squash Championships, one of the leading events on the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit, in Cardiff saw top-seeded Indian Aditya Jagtap winning it. He had won for the first time last year – and duly reached the final as expected, but only after recovering from deficits in both the quarter-finals and semis.
 
The 17-year-old, a pupil at Millfield School in England, faced 16-year-old Egyptian Marwan El Shorbagy, a 3/4 seed who upset England's second seed Tom Dwyer in the semi-finals.
 
Jagtap, the Indian Junior National champion, was in sparkling form in the final, despatching El Shorbagy 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 to retain the title in style.
