Soumya Karki and Ness
Billimoria, the top seeds in the girls’ under – 17 and boys’ under -19
categories recorded contrasting wins to lift the title in the Raju ChainaniJunior Squash Championship, the 99th tournament organised
by IndianSquash professionals
under the auspices of Squash Racquet Association of Maharashtra at the
National Sports Club of India.
Soumya needed half the
level of her game to outclass Aishwarya Nambiar 11-6, 11-3, 11-4 to bag the
girls ‘title’ while Ness won his maiden title on default as his friend
and opponent Ajan Jayant could’t turn up as he had to attend exams. None
the less, the delight of winning the title was visible on Ness’ face.
For Soumya, it was usual
business as she didn’t give a single chance to Aishwarya. Both the players
won Rs 2500and winner’s
trophy for their efforts, while Aishwarya and Ajan had to settle with Rs
1500 .
Abhimanyu Shah also won
the boys’ under -17 title without stepping on the court as Rohan Paranjpe,
his opponent bowed out with an injury. With three main matches not providing
much of entertainment, focus shifted to the boys’ under-15 final’ where
Raghav Mehrotra was by far the better player against Yohan Pandole. Even
before Yohan could settle down with his game plan, he was already staring at
defeat, losing the first two games 11-5, 11-7.Though he did give a tough fight , he lost 11-9 in the third game.
The boys’ under -13
final lived up to spectator’s expectation, as Yohan Surti and Aryaman Adik
locked horns for the title. Aryaman gained the early advantage by winning
the first game 1-8. However, in the close second and third games, he lost
11-3, 10-12 respectively. That was enough for Yohan to run through him.
Yohan won the fourth and final game 11-2 for the title.
