The 1st ISP tournament in Northern India
, specifically Delhi was a resounding success with the stands packed
by players ,parents , spectators and coaches numbering approximately a
hundred, during the peak periods. Players from about twenty different
schools scattered around North India matched their skills in an
amalgamation of relentless and enervating team and individual events.
The players from Chandigarh and Mohali coached by Puneet Singh showed how
relatively small town players can humble the Delhi contingent by
winning all the team events and two of three individual ones. The only
exceptions were Abhishek Pradhan who opted to play the U-17 event for lack
of stiff competition in his age group - Karm Kumar who won the U-17
title and saved Delhi from total ignominy , - Diwij Singh who lost a
well contested U -13 final to the rising star Ranvijay Singh ( also
awarded best male player of the tournament ) – and Modern Barakhamba
who came second in the U-15 team championships. Janet Vidhi from Delhi was
awarded the best girl player of the tournament . The short stint she trained
under the renowned Egyptian coach Tarek Awad has done wonders for her game
and confidence. Robin Maan was awarded the best upcoming player of the
Tournament and his tenacity will ensure him a bright future.
Sagar School Alwar ,a relatively new institution was the
surprise package and bagged the 2nd position under 13.
As luck would have it Mr Satinder Bajwa , mentor of the former world
Champion Jansher Khan was in town which coincided with his son Pehlaj
winning the U-15 title. He gracefully acceded to our request to present the
trophies to the individual winners. The KV Vice Principal Mrs Yasmin
Shahid presented the Team Trophies.
