Court Triumph:
Sandeep Jangra in action against Vikram Malhotra during the final of the
JVPG Club-ISP Squash Classic at the JVPG on Sunday.
Sandeep Jangra, the former
boys under – 15, and under – 17 National champion, wore down the early
resistance from Vikram Malhotra to emerge the men’s singles winner in four
games in the Rs. 50, 000/- prize money JVPG Club-ISP Squash Classic, which
concluded at the glass-backed courts of the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club on
Sunday.
Jangra, the better player on the day, won the first
game 12-10, lost the close second 9-11 and then romped home in the next two
11-4, 11-4 to bag the winner’s purse of Rs. 7,500/- Malhotra, not in the
best of form, had to be content with Rs. 5,000/-.
The handicap doubles final
saw Cyrus Vakil and Alouke Mathur record a comfortable 15-10, 15-10 win over
Vijay Waghela and Amit Bhutani to take home Rs. 10,000/-.

Vikram Malhotra and Sandeep Jangra will battle it out
in the singles final of the Ashwini Jewellers sponsored JVPG Club –ISP
Squash Classic handicap doubles and men’s top 16 tournament, at the JVPG
courts today.
An experienced Sandeep defeated Abhishek Pradhan in
straight games 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 to reach the final.
Vikram Malhotra, on the other hand, dropped just one
game before defeating Mahesh Mangaonkar 11-4, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6.

Vikram Malhotra 12-10, 9-11,11-4, 11-4 to claim the men’s singles title in
the Rs 50,000 prize money Ashwini Jewellers sponsored JVPG Club –ISP Squash
Classic, which concluded at the glass- backed courts of the Juhu Vile Parle
Gymkhana club.
Jangra, who won the first game 12-10, lost a close
second 9-11 but then pulled up his socks and cut down on his unforced errors
to canter home 11-4,11-4 for the winner’s purse of Rs 7,500. Malhotra, not
in the best of form, had to be content with Rs 5,000.
The handicap doubles final was won by Cyrus Vakil and
Alouke Mathur who brushed aside the Luke-warm challenge 15-10, 15-10 from
Vijay Waghela and Amit Butani.

Mumbai: Feb, 2: Experienced campaigner Niraj
Shirgaokar defeated talented youngster Siddharth Samantray 3-1 to reach the
quarter final stage of the Men’s top 16 singles competition in the Ashiwini
Jewellers sponsored JVPG Club-ISP Squash Classic handicap doubles and men’s
top 16 tournament, at the JBPG courts here, on Saturday.
Shirgaokar got into his groove early to find the nicks
and corners and took the first set 11-8, but the young Samantray increased
the pace of the game in the second to win 11-5. However, the experience on
Shirgaokar enabled him to slow down the game once again and he engaged
Samantray in long rallies, winning most of them to pravail in the next two
and won 11-7, 5-11, 11-8, 11-4. In the doubles handicap events, Prabhakar
Darekar and Rishi Joshi beat Karan Lalchandani and Zeus 15-10, 8-15, 15-11
to enter the quarter-finals.
Deepali Partner Patil to

Former state champion Deepali
Anvekar made a return to the squash court, partnering Bhagat Patil to score
a 15-9, 15-12 victory over Pradeep Paswan and Uday Chand Rai in the first
round of the JVPG Club-ISP squash classic handicap doubles and men’s top 16
tournament, sponsored by Ashwini Jewellers at the JVPG courts, here, on
Friday.
Junior girl champ Ankita Sharma, could not emulate
Deepali and along with partner Waqar Pathan ended on the losing side against
Leon Emmanuel and Hemant Khera to a 12-15, 13-15 score.
