Jangra beats Chauhan for Squash title (Article in Mid-Day, Mumbai : 12/10/2004)
Consistency was the
keyword for Sandeep Jangra, as the youngster representing Jindal,
culminated his series of fine performance by deservedly gaining top
honours with an impressive straight games triumph over Sarvesh Chauhan in
the singles summit clash of the Club Aquaria-ISP Men’s Top 8 & Doubles
Open Squash Professionals, played at Club Aquaria, Borivali yesterday.
Having a good run in
the three-day championships following his sustained efforts, Jangra who
had earlier accounted for Rohan Gracious in the semi’s, held the sway
against Chauhan in the finals too, planting a facil 9-3, 9-4 win.
The title in the
doubles section however was decided after a much closer affair in which
Khar Gymkhana’s Sanjay Goyal and Rohan Gracious met a stiff resistance
from Otters Club team of Tushar Bambani and Mohammed Merchant before
grafting a hard-fought 9-7, 10-8 win.
For the record, the
championships carried a total prize money of Rs.27,000.

One-Sided encounters
were the order of the day in the Club-Aquaria ISP Mens’s Top 8 & Doubles
Open Squash Championship as Sachin Jadhav, Sandeep Jangra and Rohan
Gracious breezed past their opponents for a semi-final berth in the
singles category of the three-day event being played at the courts of
Club Aquaria, Borivali, yesterday.
Exhibiting a great
sense of purpose and efficiency right from the outset, Jadhav dropped just
two points against his rival Tushar Bambani before making his way into the
last four.
Continuing the trend
Sandeep Jangra and Rohan Gracious too made light work of their opponents,
Kunwarpal Singh and Ritesh Sharma respectively.
The semi-final line-up
in the doubles section comprises Gopi Mohite/Sunil Lalachandani, Raiz
Mohammed / Ajaz Mohammed and Sanjay Goyal / Rohan Gracious.
Also making the grade
were the Otters Club team of Tushar Bambani / Mohammed Merchant, who
recovered from an early reversal to quell the challenge of Sachin Jadhav &
Anil Mohite 5-9, 9-7, 9-2.

Sandeep Jangra and Rohan Gracious too made light work of their opponents,
