WCG sideline Otters ‘B’ for crown

Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) turned gaint killers when they outplayed Otters Club ‘B’ 3-1 in the best of five final to claim the title in The Leela-ISP Squash Classic handicap team event that concluded at the glass-backed squash courts of The Leela on Sunday. 

Prashant Mehra gave WCG a winning start, capitalizing on his three-point advantage to beat Cyrus Apoo 14-15, 15-11, 8-15, 15-9, 15-9. After Jay Thapa had beaten Karan Bhatty15-4, 13-15, 9-15, 15-10 to give WCG a 2-0 lead, Ashwin Kukreja pulled one back for Otters ‘B’, defeating Bipin Batra 15-14, 15-13, 15-13, 15-9 against Tushar Bhambani.

 

Rajani’s heroics in Khar Gym win

Rajesh Rajani’s heroics, despite a knee injury, enabled Khar Gymkhana ‘B’ record back to back victories and maintain their unbeaten run in the The Leela-ISP Squash Classic handicap team event, matches of which were played at the glass-backed courts of The Leela, on Sunday. 

Khar Gym ‘B’ first defeated Andheri Recreation Club 3-2 and then went on to outplay Hiranandani Club 4-1, with Rajani winning both his rubbers.

 

Juhu Gymkhana survive Khar scare

Juhu Gymkhana upstaged Khar Gymkhana 3-2 in  The Leela-ISP Squash Classic Handicap team event at the glass-backed courts of The Leela on Sunday. 

Though Amit Pal Kohli gave Khar Gymkhana a good start, defeating Siddharth Samantray in three games, Saket Wali and Karan Malhotra lost their matches to give Juhu Gym a 2-1 lead. After Rohan Gracious had resorted parity or Khar Gym, defeating Jatin Mehta in straight games, Akshay Gandhi defeated Siddharth Malhotra in the decider to give Juhu Gymkhana the tie.
