Vikas Jangra, Aishwarya Bhattacharya lift titles

Vikas Jangra and Aishwarya Bhattacharya proved they were a cut above the rest as they lived up their top game of squash to win the men's and women's singles titles, defeating Jindal Squash Academy’s Laxman Joshi and Urvashi Joshi respectively in the Rs 1 lakh prize money of 4th Braveheart Ashok Kamte Squash Classic 2012, played at the Bombay Gymkhana Squash Courts. Vikas Jangra, in very good touch throughout the tournament, ended the game before showing tremendous reserves of stamina, combined with a fine combination of shots to win the final against Laxman Joshi, winning the men's final in straight games, the scoreline reading 11-5, 11-8, 15-13 to bag the winner's purse of Rs 8,000.

The women’s open final was very exciting and upset win for Aishwarya. The young Aishwarya started the match very well, and won the first set 11-6. But defending champion Urvashi came back very strongly and won the second set 11-6. But Aishwarya came back in the game after winning the third set 11-8, but Urvashi put her experienced in the fourth game and win the set 11-8. After winning the two sets both the players started the fifth and decider set in a great fashion. After the 11-11 tie break, Urvashi’s errors helped Aishwarya to won the set and final 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11. Aishwarya took home a purse of Rs 7,000/-.

Another talented youngster, Aishwarya Singh won a double, winning the Boys U-17 title and then pairing with Puneet Parekh to win the Handicap Doubles title. In the U-17 final Aishwarya Singh beat Akhilesh Yadav in five games at 11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, while in the Doubles Handicap final with Puneet Parekh, they defeated Vishal Yadav and Nilesh Pal 15-11, 11-15, 15-12. Aishwarya received a cash award of Rs.5,000/- for his under-17 win and Rs 8,000 for the handicap doubles title.

The chief guest of the evening, Mr. N. R. Srinivasan (VP Corporate Relations, GVK) gave away the prizes to all the winners.

MUMBAI : Former Indian Squash Player Vikas Jangra and Aishwarya Bhattacharya proved they were cut above the rest as they lived up their top game of squash to win the men’s and women’s single title, defeating Jindal Squash Academy’s Laxman Joshi and Urvashi Joshi respectively in the 1 Lakh  prize money during fourth Braveheart Ashok Kamte Squash Classic played at the Bombay Gymkhana Squash Courts ,here on Sunday.

Vikas Jangra in very good touch throughout the tournament ended the game before showing tremendous  reserves of stamina combined with fine combination of shots to win the final  against Jindal Squash Academy’s Laxman Joshi, winning the men’s final in straight games, the score line reading 11-5,11-8,15-13 to bag the winner purse of 8,000.

The Women’s   Open  Final was very excited and upset  win for Aishwarya. The Young Aishwarya started match very well and won first set  11-6. But Aishwarya came back in game after winning the third set  11-8 , but Urvashi put her experience in fourth game and won the set by 11-8.

After   winning two set both the player started the fifth and decider set in a great fashion. After the 11-11 tie break , Urvashi error helped Aishwarya  to  won  the set  and  final  11-6,6-11,11-8,8-11,13-11.

The combination of experience and youth entered in Top 8 doubles semi- final of 4th Brave heart Ashok Kamte Squash Classic 2012,featuring the Men’s & Women’s Singles , Doubles , Top 8 by Invitation and Doubles Handicap played at Bombay Gymkhana Squash Court on Wednesday.

 Vijay Waghela and Dipesh Borhade were too strong for opponents Sachin Jadhav and Snajay Pawar winning 5-15,15-13,15-9 to reach semi-final.  

While in Men’s Single Former India Player Vikas Jangra come very strongly against former player Saket Wali 11-9,11-9,11-6 to reach in the quarterfinal stage.

Talented youngster Madhav Dhingra and Rahil Fazelbhoy eased into pre quarter final of fourth Brave heart Ashok Kamte Squash Classic 2012 at Bombay  Gymkhana Squash Court on Wednesday. Dhingra registerd 11-4 , 11-4 , 11-7 win over Karan Bhatty while Fazalbhoy beat Vikas Sharma 11-1, 11-5,11-7 in the men’s open second round matches.

In the boys U-17 second round matches Shlok Makhija won very close contest against Naman Shah to reached in pre- quarter final Shlok beat Naman in five set thrill match 6-11,11-9,9-11,11-8,11-8.

In  other U-17 match Puneet Parekh defeated Dhananjay Bansal 11-5,11-6,11-2. In girls U-15 category Diya Joukhani beat Preeti Parekh 11-1,11-1,11-1 in second round while Bhavna Yadav came out on top against Srishti Nagar 11-6,11-2,11-2.
