Willstrop & Low Wee Wern Wins 2014 China Open
England's James Willstrop, the World No.7 and 2014
Commonwealth Games silver medalist, claimed his first
PSA World tour title since 2013 by defeating compatriot
Peter Barker 3-2 in the final of the 2014 China Open -
Squash Stars On The Bund, PSA International 70 event in
Shanghai earlier today.
The 31-year-old
Pontefract based player got the better of Barker in a
mammoth 98-minute battle, surviving a thrilling comeback
to win his first tour title since beating the Essex-man
to honours at the 2013 Canary Wharf Classic.
In
the women’s event Low Wee Wern maintained Malaysian
ownership of the Women's China Open - Squash Stars On
The Bund title for the fourth year in a row - and
claimed the title for herself a third time when she
upset top seed Camille Serme in the final of the WSA
Gold 50 event in Shanghai.
It was a marathon
climax to the biggest ever Tour event staged in mainland
China - the action taking place on an all-glass
showcourt on the 11th floor of The Peninsula Hotel
overlooking the spectacular Shanghai skyline on the
city's famous Bund waterfront.

Australian Frankcomb ended the giant-killing run of unseeded Indian Harinder
Pal Sandhu. It took the world No41 from
Tasmania
65 minutes to see off Sandhu, ranked almost 100 places lower, 12-10, 11-6,
12-10.
Sandhu, the 22-year-old
world No136 from Chennai, was playing in his first PSA Tour event of the
year – but made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals where he ousted
second seed Jan Koukal before going on to down
Hong Kong
's fourth seed Dick Lau in the semis.
