Silver medal to Utkarsh Baheti

Utkarsh Baheti of Jaipur who is training under International player Surbhi Misra won silver medal in Boys under - 13 category in French Junior Open Squash tournament held at Lille, France from 20-23 February 2014.

Utkarsh beat Fabien Teyssera of France in 2nd round with score of 11-5,11-3,11-2. He played pre quarters defeating France player Harold Castiaux score of 11-4,11-2,11-4. In quarter - finals Utkarsh faced England player Jack Mitter defeating him with score 11-9,11-3,11-2. In semi finals he defeated Wales player Srikar Mumidi 11-3,11-3,8-11,16-14. Utkarsh lost in the finals to James carter of England 8-11 /11-7/ 11-1/11-6 thus getting silver medal

   
 

PSA Challenger 5 Open du Gard

  India’s sensational teenager Mahesh Mangaonkar began the New Year with the first title of the year when he despatched top-seeded Scot Greg Lobban in the final of the Open du Gard, the PSA Challenger 5 squash event marking its sixth year at Squash des Arenes in Nimes, France.

Third seed Mangaonkar made his breakthrough in the semi-finals when he crushed second-seeded Kuwaiti Ammar Altamimi in just 28 minutes,
Now in the fourth Tour final of his career, the 19-year-old from Mumbai had a point to prove when he faced Lobban, a 21-year-old from Edinburgh enjoying his eighth Tour final.

Mangaonkar's success in last month's Imet Open in Slovakia came after a five-game final victory over Lobban - the result of which is that both now players share a World No.82 ranking.

The win, his third on the PSA Tour, also set up a nine-match winning streak for the Mumbai teenager - the longest of his career.

It was third time lucky for the organisers of the Women's Internationaux de Creteil when home town star Camille Serme upset second seed Joshna Chinappa in straight games to provide local interest in the final of the $12,000 WISPA World Tour squash event in its third year at Centre Marie Therese Eyquem in Creteil, in the outskirts of the French capital Paris, for the first time. 

Top seeded Italian Manuela Manetta, the 2007 champion was taken the full distance by Indian star Dipika Pallikal before beating the 17-year-old fifth seed 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 13-11.

Ghosal takes his 4th PSA title (13th Sept 2008) 

National champion Saurav Ghosal scored his third successive upset in the Ornano International Open to win the inaugural $15,000 PSA Tour event in Bordeaux , France when he beat World No 30 Davide Bianchetti of Italy 3-1.  

The Kolkata-born 22-year-old made his presence felt in the quarterfinals when he toppled the top seed of France Renan Lavigne in four games.  

In the semifinals, Ghosal faced 5th seed Amr Swelim of Egypt .  The contest turned out to be a marathon encounter lasting 74 minutes before Ghosal survived a fifth game tie-break to win 10-12, 11-2, 11-2, 3-11, 14-12.

ALISHA, VAIDEHI & ISHAN BALWANI DO WELL IN FRENCH JUNIOR OPEN

  Mumbai’s Alisha Mashruwala and Vaidehi Reddy of Chennai performed creditably, finishing runners-up in their respective categories in the French Junior Open Squash Which ended in Marseille on Sunday, reports PTI.
 
Alisha the current under-17 Indian national champion, who was seeded third in the girls under-15 category, lost to top-seeded Chantal Morao of Spain 6-9, 2-9, 3-9.

Vaidehi, on her debut in the French Junior Open (under-17) category, defeated Simona Hubscher (Swi), Julia Schmalz (Swi) and Marrd Duplomb (France) in straight sets, en route to the semi-finals where she beat Kirsty Mophea (Eng) 7-9, 9-1, 9-5, 9-4 before losing in the final to Emma Beddoes (Eng – 5th seed) 4-9, 5-9, 8-10.
 
IIshaan Balvani (Mumbai, Maharastra) was the only Indian boy who participated in this championship in the u13 category.

Having lost in the 1st round to Piene Badly (France), he won the Plate event and achieved the 17th position defeating Remi Soria (France) 9-2, 9-1, 10-9.

During the awards ceremony, Alisha was given an additional trophy for promoting Indian sport in France, since it was her third successive participation there.
